How we mitigate to reduce the construction noise level

Sometimes the most disruptive construction activities for residents living near a work site are not from heavy machinery digging up dirt or building concrete support walls, but from regular everyday activities, such as workers needing to communicate with each other. A great example is  at the intersection of Allen Road and Eglinton Avenue West, where work has started to pour the concrete slab in the tunnels for the LRT tracks.  Lire la suite »

Going deep into the ground at Laird Station

In building the crosstown, we’re working to minimize disruption – here’s how we’re doing that at Laird. We’re using a sequential excavation method (a mining technique) to excavate the underground portion of the station – where the platforms and concourse levels will be built around the current LRT tunnels.

This means once the excavation is complete for the station entrances, a total of two at Laird, we will start mining sideways under the roadway to make room for the platforms and concourse. In contrast, the cut and cover method means excavating vertically from the road.  Lire la suite »

When Prajwal Amatya moved to Canada from Nepal in early 2016, he was faced with a common challenge for recent immigrants; an inability to secure employment despite a wealth of professional experience as CAD/Drafter.

In an effort to improve his chances of finding a job, Prajwal enrolled in the Toronto District School Board’s Canadian Experience program at the Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre.
