Tunnel Backfilling Brentcliffe Road to Laird Drive

What Work is Taking Place?

To support the ongoing mining works at the future Laird Station, a layer of backfill (granular material) will be added to the base of the existing tunnel from the Brentcliffe Portal to Laird Drive. 

Backfill material will be stockpiled and then be pushed in to the tunnel at Brentcliffe Portal and inside the tunnels towards Laird Drive. Compaction of the material will occur inside of the tunnels. Lire la suite »

Periodic Deliveries at Laird Station into Spring 2018

What Work is Taking Place? 

To support a number of large equipment and material deliveries on Eglinton Avenue East near the Main and Secondary Entrances at Laird Station periodic lane closures to accommodate deliveries will be required until Spring 2018. Mining at Laird Station Main Entrance

The Eglinton Crosstown includes a 10-kilometre underground portion, between Weston Road and Laird Drive, where 15 below-grade stations are under construction. Eleven will be built using a “cut-and cover” method and four, including Laird Station, are going to be “mined.”

Sewer Re-lining Works at Laird Station

Sewer re-lining is a process intended to increase the durability of the sewers.  At Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue East, local sewers will be re-lined in the vicinity of the construction sites. 

The liner is a flexible membrane that is placed inside the sewers. Lining is designed to be generally non-disruptive and eliminates the need for excavation of the entire sewer section. The required activities take approximately three days for each sewer section.  Lire la suite »

Update: Dewatering System at Laird Station

Re-Issue date: September 1, 2017

The term “dewatering” means pumping from the ground water at a site where there will be excavation.  At Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive, dozens of small wells will be drilled along the curbside eastbound lane. Wells will be drilled and shallow trenches will be required to lay the pipes, pumps, wells and valves to do the work.

Pedestrian Safety near Construction Sites

The tunnelled section between Brentcliffe Road and Black Creek Drive is complete, and last year, construction activities began at all 15 underground stations including Kennedy Station. The preparatory works at the at-grade portion of the line, between Brentcliffe Road and Kennedy Station, also started this summer. Since the end of school, many work zones have been set up for construction and some major intersections along Eglinton Avenue have changed.

To progress construction at Laird Station and prepare for upcoming mining works, crews will be drilling from the right of way surface into the completed TBM tunnel to fill portions of the tunnels with concrete.

Update: Overnight Watermain Investigations for Laird Station

What Work is Happening?

To prepare for upcoming mining works at Laird Station, a careful inspection of watermains in the area is required. 

Crews will complete water leakage detection for the watermains on Eglinton Avenue East between Sutherland Drive and Brentcliffe Road. The scope of work includes testing watermains and associated fittings on Eglinton and 10 meters north/south of Eglinton.  Lire la suite »
