Shoring and Excavation Work Continues for Laird Station: Long Term Sidewalk Closure
Since June 2016, shoring and excavation work has been underway within the main and secondary entrance sites for the future Laird Station. As soon as May 15, 2017 the second part of the long-term road occupancy and sidewalk closure on Eglinton Avenue East between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive will begin and remain for the duration of the work into 2020. In March 2017, the long-term sidewalk closure on the west side of Laird Drive from Eglinton Avenue East to Parklea Drive along with the closure of the west/east crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East was implemented.
What to Expect and Hours of Work
- Residents near the work site can expect to hear trucks, excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment.
- For this stage of construction, crews will be working until 11:00 p.m. on a regular basis. The work is permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week.
- Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx and Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
Pedestrian Impacts
May 2017
- The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive will be closed.
- A temporary signalized pedestrian crossing has been installed on Eglinton Avenue East, approximately 50 meters west of Don Avon Drive. Once operational, this will help facilitate pedestrians crossing Eglinton Avenue between Laird Drive and Don Avon Drive.
- Access to shops and businesses along the south side of Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
Previously Implemented March 2017
- The sidewalk on the west side of Laird drive between Eglinton Avenue East and Parklea Drive will be closed.
- The west-to-east crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive will be closed.
- Signage will direct pedestrians to use existing crossing at Laird Drive and Wicksteed Avenue/McRae Drive or take Parklea Drive to Sutherland Drive to access Eglinton Avenue East.
Traffic Details
May 2017
- All current turning restrictions in the construction zone will be maintained.
- During peak hours, travel times may be affected. Be sure to allow extra time.
Previously Implemented March 2017
- Two southbound lanes on Laird Drive south of Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained, however lanes will be narrowed slightly to accommodate concrete barriers separating the construction area.
TTC Impacts
Spring 2017
- Bus stops for routes #56A & #54B Leaside, #34 Eglinton, #51 Leslie, #54 Lawrence East and #100 Flemingdon Park will be relocated. Please look for signage regarding temporary stop locations.
