Nightly Crosswalk Closure at Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton to Facilitate Watermain Installation

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews will be closing the east side crosswalk (north-south) at Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection as early as Monday, November 19, 2018 for approximately four (4) nights.

The closure is required to provide safe and adequate space for watermain installation work at the south side of Pharmacy Intersection. In order to minimize disruption will be performed overnight.

Night time staging:


Hours of Work

  • As early as Monday, November 19, 2018 for approximately four (4) nights.
  • Work is permitted from 7:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • The crosswalk on the east side (north-south) of the intersection of Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East will be closed for the duration of this work.
  • The crosswalk will be remain open during the day.
  • Lane reductions are required to safely conduct this work.
  • The duration of the closure may be longer of shorter than expected
  • Pedestrians must cross at the next available crosswalks.
  • Paid Duty Officer may be present to assist with traffic and pedestrian direction.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • The crosswalk on the east side (north-south) of the intersection of Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East will be closed for the duration of this work
  • A minimum of one lane traffic west and eastbound will be maintained.
  • Left-turn restrictions westbound going south during the night.
  • Left-turn restrictions southbound going east during the night.
  • Paid Duty Officer may be present to assist with traffic and pedestrian direction.
  • Please watch for signage as you make your way through the intersection.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
  • In the event of relocation, please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
