Guideway Work along Surface Section of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT: Warden Avenue to Birchmount Road

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews will be continuing guideway work in the centre of Eglinton Avenue East between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road. Starting as early as mid-March 2019 for approximately eight (8) months.

The work includes cutting and removal of existing asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops.

Hours of Work

  • Work will began as early as mid- March 2019 for approximately eight (8) months. 
  • Time: work will be performed between the hours of 7 am and 11pm
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • Cutting and removal of existing asphalt in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road. The work will be performed within a protected work zone.
  • Eglinton Avenue East remains open in both directions at all times.
  • Work will be conducted in stages during this work.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • Property access may be maintained.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of two lanes of eastbound and west bound through traffic will be maintained during this work.
  • The north-south crosswalks at Sinnott Road will be open during Stage 2.
  • The north-south crosswalks at Sinnott Road will be restricted during Stage 3.
  • Emergency services access will be maintained
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.

TTC Impacts

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
