Rolling Lane Closures on Sutherland Drive at Eglinton Avenue East - Week of June 23, 2014

juillet 2, 2014

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19 kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.

What work is starting?

What: Crews will be installing ground movement monitoring equipment.

Why: This monitoring equipment will provide the construction team important information on the ground response to the tunnel boring machine’s work underground and will allow crews to appropriately adjust tunnelling activities along the way.

Where: This equipment will be installed within the roadway at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East & Sutherland Drive. Crews will be working within one lane of traffic with short rolling lane closures to drill and install monitoring equipment in preparation for the tunnel construction.

When: Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25, 2014 with a rain-check day of Thursday, June 26, 2014

Traffic Details

This will affect northbound traffic on Sutherland Drive near Eglinton Avenue East and vehicles will be diverted around the work area. This construction will temporarily block driveways at 411, 413, 415 and 417 Sutherland Drive, just south of Eglinton.

Traffic will be diverted around the work zone (separated by cones). Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction near the work zone and rolling lane closures to allow the crews to perform their work safely. Please take care when travelling near construction areas. Efforts will be made to expedite the work as much as possible, while avoiding disruption to rush hour traffic.

Pedestrians:

The east sidewalk along Sutherland Drive will be temporarily closed, and there will be signs installed to warn pedestrians to cross the street and use the west sidewalk.
