What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the construction of the future surface area stops, crews continue to upgrade and relocate wet utilities along Eglinton Avenue East between Credit Union Drive and Swift Drive.

In an effort to minimize disruption and to protect the safety of the local community and commuters, work will be performed overnight beginning as early as Monday, October 22nd, 2018 and last until the end of November 2018.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to begin as early as Monday, October 22nd, 2018, and will last until approximately the end of November 2018.
  • Work will occur overnight from 8 PM to 6 AM.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Property access to businesses will be maintained.
  • For safety, fencing, dust cloth, barriers, and scaffolding may be erected around work zones.
  • Noise, dust and lighting from construction activity can be expected.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when traveling near work zones.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of one (1) lane of traffic in both directions (eastbound/westbound) will be maintained at all times.
  • Westbound left-turn restrictions will be in effect during the nightly closure.
  • Lane reductions and turn restrictions will be required to safely perform this work.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of Eglinton Avenue East and Swift Drive intersection will be closed for the duration of the work.
  • Please watch for signs directing pedestrians to alternate routes.
  • A Paid Duty Officer may be present during this work.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
  • In the event of relocation, please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
