Part of the work to be done within the north side work zone includes the installation of a new sanitary sewer system. The new sanitary sewer will run along Eglinton Avenue West between Chaplin Crescent and Latimer Avenue.

To complete the installation of the new sewer, crews will need to divert the existing sanitary sewer system flow. Diversion work involves cutting into the existing sanitary sewer pipe and temporarily diverting the flow of sewage while the new pipes and property connections are installed.

Sewer diversion work will be completed overnight. Doing the diversions overnight will minimize the public’s exposure to the odour of sewage, and because there is less sewer flow during the overnight period, it will help provide safer conditions for workers.

Overnight work to complete the sewer diversions will be required approximately 15 times (one night each) over the course of the sewer installation process.  Notice will be provided in advance of each overnight date.

  • Installation of the new sewer will occur between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven days a week.
  • Overnight diversion work will take place between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM and will be communicated in advance of each required date.
  • Work may be delayed due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Overnight work will be required.
  • The odour from sewage may be present while crews perform diversion work.
  • Noise and dust from construction equipment and vehicles can be expected.
  • Truck traffic entering and exiting the work zone can be expected.
  • Equipment and material storage within the work zone can be expected.
