What Work is Happening?

  • The abandoned TTC Bus Depot (pictured below) is being demolished to make way for the new Eglinton LRT Station’s primary entrance (pictured at bottom) and new developments at Yonge and Eglinton.

Progress to Date

  • The demolition began in late August 2016, and is to be completed in two stages:
  • Stage 1—demolishing two buildings on the far west of the property—is well underway with targeted completion in early-January.
  • Stage 2—demolishing the last couple of bus platforms on the east side of the property is expected to commence on April 25th, 2017.

The Final Stretch of Demolition

  • In the comings months, completion of demolition will signal a major step in the renewal of the lands at Yonge-Eglinton.

Overnight Work Required

  • One of the bus depot canopies overhangs the pedestrian tunnel that connects the Eglinton subway station with the in-operation bus terminal.
  • After assessing all possible options in conjunction with the TTC, the constructor Crosslinx Transit Solutions, and a third-party consultant, it has been determined that the only safe method of demolition for this canopy is during times the tunnel is closed to the public.
  • As the pedestrian tunnel is required as an emergency exit for the subway station, the work must occur overnight (between 2AM and 6AM), when the pedestrian tunnel is closed to the public.

UPDATE:

  • The overnight work will start on April 25th, 2017, and will take place for up to two weeks.  We understand that this may cause some disturbance during the overnight period. Every effort will be made to complete the work as efficiently as possible.
