What Work is Taking Place?

Support of excavation work continues at the Avenue Station.  Crews are working on the piling portion of works at the Main Entrance. At the secondary entrance, crews have completed the piling portion of work and are preparing for excavation to start.

Shoring is a common step in the process of installing the foundation of a building. In the first stage, crews will install steel piles, braces and tie-backs around the sides of the future entrances to support the excavation of these buildings to a depth of 32m at the main entrance and 24m at the secondary entrance. This will support the surrounding loads until the underground levels are constructed. This stage will take approximately 12 months.

Hours of Work:

  • The work is permitted between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., 7 days a week.
  • For this stage of construction, crews will be working until 11p.m. on a regular basis.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. If approval for this is granted, Metrolinx and its constructor, Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.

What to Expect

Construction staging has been designed to reduce impacts to the neighbourhood as best as possible while allowing crews to complete the work safely.

  • Future stages of the work at Avenue Station will be mined. This will significantly reduce the potential impact to the roadway and allow crews to work under the roadway.
  • Residents near the work site can expect to hear trucks, excavators, backhoes, a pile drill and other construction equipment.
  • There will be heavy truck traffic at times entering and exiting the station entrances.
  • In addition to the construction activities, residents can expect
