Hydro Relocation for West Portal & Elevated Guideway

What work is taking place?

Between April 3rd to April 17th, crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities at the Eglinton Avenue and Black Creek Drive in preparation for the the West Portal and Guideway, where the light rail vehicles will travel on bridged tracks above Black Creek Drive, and enter and exit the underground portion of the Crosstown. Traffic Signal Hanging at Fairbank Station

What Work is Taking Place?

To make way for station construction, crews must relocate and hang the existing traffic signals at Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue West.  Traffic signal relocation will take place over five days, with curbside lane closures throughout the intersection.  Crews will install temporary traffic poles and signals at each corner of the intersection.  The temporary traffic signals and cables will be hung overhead, while the existing traffic poles are removed. LOW WATER PRESSURE NOTICE: Watermain Investigation Work

What Work is Taking Place?

On April 3, 2017, crews will begin subsurface utility engineering (SUE) investigation of a large 900mm watermain in the Eglinton Avenue West and Chaplin Crescent area.  The watermain will be exposed to determine the utility and ground conditions in advance of wet utilities relocation.  Most of the work will take place within the existing traffic staging at Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue West. The TBM Don Experience

The week of March 13, 2017, the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) project marked another significant milestone. Metrolinx began the process of extracting the tunnel boring machines (TBM) from the completed east tunnels. TBM ‘Don’, the machine that bored the north tunnel, was the first machine to be lifted to surface. He was disassembled and lifted from extraction shaft just east of Yonge & Eglinton in four over-sized sections over four days.  Read more »
